Social media is where people share everything—but when it comes to custody battles, oversharing can be dangerous.

Vent about your ex on Facebook? Screenshot. Post an angry TikTok about child support? Evidence. Expose private texts or videos involving your child? Serious legal backlash.

In family court, judges aren’t impressed by likes or followers.

They want to see that you’re focused on your child’s well-being, not building a case in the court of public opinion. One impulsive post can paint you as unstable, uncooperative, or emotionally reactive—even if you’re in the right.

So what should you do instead? Stay silent online. Document everything privately. Talk to your lawyer, not your timeline. And if your ex is posting about you, collect evidence and take it to court—not back to social media.

For a strategic, lawyer-written breakdown of how to handle social media in custody battles, read our full guide on this topic! Your future deserves better than an angry post.
