Social Media as a Weapon in Divorce – How to Protect Yourself

In today’s divorce cases, one of the most overlooked weapons is social media. Posts, screenshots, and private messages are all fair game—and your ex might be using them to build a case against you.

You don’t have to be a digital ghost, but you do need to be careful.

What not to post during divorce:

  • Rants about your ex

  • Photos that suggest partying or recklessness

  • Details about your court case

  • New relationships before things are finalized

If your ex is publicly bashing you or sharing misinformation, this may even qualify as harassment or defamation, especially if it affects your parenting time or reputation.

Alabama family courts do consider online behavior. A parent who acts responsibly online often appears more stable and protective in the eyes of the court.

Want to protect yourself legally and strategically? I’ve created a legal guide on this!
