What qualifies as “abuse” for a PFA in Alabama?
Under Alabama law, “abuse” includes physical harm, threats, harassment, stalking, intimidation, or any conduct that places someone in fear of immediate danger. It is broader than many people realize.
The court looks at specific behavior: what was said, done, threatened, or attempted. Even a single serious incident may be enough. In other cases, a pattern of controlling or aggressive behavior can support the need for protection.
Every situation is unique, and the key is clearly explaining what happened. A straightforward, fact-based petition helps the judge understand the risk.
If you’re unsure whether your situation qualifies, I can review it with you confidentially.
